Some Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the classes suitable for?
Men and women of all ages and abilities. There's usually a 50/50 split of men to women at the classes, which are structured for all abilities.
Is is safe!?
The risk of injuring anything (even your pride) is extremely small. There are target pads to practice hitting, not each other. We also enjoy a friendly, courteous and respectful environment where 'beating each other up' just isn't the done thing!
Do I need to be fit?
Classes are suitable even the most unfit couch potato. You can take all the lesson activities at your own pace. Stamina and technical skills will steadily increase before you know it.
Do I need any prior experience?
No, classes are suitable for complete beginners.
Who takes the classes?
Lessons are lead by experienced martial arts instructors with decades of training and teaching experience behind them. Additionally, Instructors are CRB checked, first aid trained and have nationally recognised qualifications (NVQ, NCFE) in fitness instructing.
Why do you allow new joiners only on certain dates?
This is done for several reasons which benefit both new joiners and existing training members. Firstly it means that the class can be organised to incorporate a dedicated 'intro session'. This couldn't be done to the same standard on an ad-hoc basis. Secondly it's more than likely that there will be other beginners (in the same boat as it were) trying the lesson out on the same day.
Do you do childrens lessons?
Yes, we also run a popular junior martial arts club for ages 7 upwards.
